Snowdonia in the wintertime is incredibly beautiful, just as beautiful or even more so than in the summer. Thanks to the Snow-capped mountains which are right out of a winter fairy tale, lakes and rivers full of crisp, cool water, sometimes even covered over with ice. The towns also come into their own, with the cobbled and ancient streets of Caernarfon and Conwy decorated with a wholesome festive feel. Come and warm your cold feet in some of our rustic and classic pubs with roaring hearth fires (when restrictions allow, of course).
Here are some of our tips for a winter escape in Snowdonia
Conwy
Conwy Town is surrounded on all sides by historic castle walls and overshadowed by the mighty castle which was built around half a millennium ago! It’s right beside the eponymous Conwy estuary which pours out into the Irish Sea, and sports striking views into Snowdonia, as well as having the amazing vista of Conwy mountain extremely close by.
Betws y coed
The wonderful village of Betws y coed attracts visitors from across the globe, you can see people of all nations and ethnicities exploring its woodland groves and enthralling rapids, set aback the setting of a glorious forest in the heartland of Snowdonia. You can even find lodges snowdonia to stay overnight in this idyllic setting.
A particular point of interest here is the swallow falls, this si the highest continuous waterfalls in all of Wales, and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Snowdonia. So you can make the most of the quieter time of year and see the falls in all of their glory. There is a great walk to be had through the amazing Gwydyr Forest park, you can do this to the aforementioned waterfall, taking about 2 hours. A jaunt into the Betws town is also an absolute must, a great outdoor shop and plenty of cafes and restaurants to enjoy.
There are also a plethora of amazing self-guided tours of the slate workshops, this includes the like so indigo slate works, which is a great location to learn all aut the history of Snowdonia national park. They are open from 9am to 5pm every day including weekends! (not including Xmas eve, day and new year!)
Coed y Brenin forest park is open all year round, perfect for mountain biking or walking, its also good to know that its ideal fo the entire family. The visitor centre and cafe are open all days fo the week throughout the year, closing only on Christmas day and boxing day. Youll also be pleased to know that you can rent bikes on-site at Beics Brenin.
Portmeirion village is open throughout the winter, although closing on Christmas day. With some incredible, nice long opening hours, and a special downloadable winter entry pass you can get half-price entry all winter long. Come rain, shine or anything else Portmeirion village is timeless and gorgeous – the ideal way to spend your time in the glorious north wales winter magic.
No matter which of these incredible attractions you choose, Snowdonia in the winter is an excellent choice for a festive excursion.
